I live in a small place in Gonzales, CA with my parents, my brother, and
my cat. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was 7, however I pretty much only played songs with basic open chords. 2017 was the year that all of that was going to change. One day, my brother’s friend learned that there was jazz band at Gonzales High School, and my brother wanted to join, so I came along with him that day. During their conversation with the band instructor I heard that the band also needed a guitarist, so I offered to join. The first few weeks were rough since I didn’t know anything about jazz chords, comping, improvisation, sight reading, and had very little understanding of music theory.
At the time I was using my Assassin GE39 by BGuitars (I bet you’ve never heard of that brand) as I endeavored in my journey of jazz guitar knowledge. I’m not going to get into the details of how my guitar became practically unusable after a very hot day in Santa Cruz, where I had one of my first jazz performances. Let’s just say I needed a new guitar, so I looked online for guitars (I primarily looked for a blue guitar since it was my favorite color), and after looking over many options, I knew I had found the one. By the end of 2017 I learned a lot more about jazz guitar than I could ever imagine, and I will continue to progress with my PRS S2 Custom 24.
