You didn’t just think there was only one way to play a certain chord right? So you’re probably already over overwhelmed with the countless number chords, but that’s not all. Each of those chords has inversions; to know how many inversions a chord has, you just need to know the number of intervals in that chord.
Triads as you many already know have 3 notes. So there are three inversions, but what exactly are inversions? Say you have a C Major triad which is made up of a root, third, and fifth, that’s your root position. Your second inversion will have those same notes but in a different configuration. This time you’re sequence will be third, fifth, and then the root. The third inversion, you’ll have fifth, root, third, and that’s it. The number of inversions depends on the number of notes within the chord just so you know.
